My first stop on my tour was the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans. This AAA Four-Diamond, and Forbes Four-Star property is located just steps from the famous French Quarter, and it complements the romance and tradition of the famous historical center. Rich in style and French-inspired decor, the elegant retreat embraces the spirit and hospitality of the Crescent City while remaining loyal to the luxury its patrons demand.
When I arrived at the Windsor Court I pulled into a very grand courtyard, and I no longer felt like I was downtown, but rather in the French countryside. The courtyard is beautifully decorated with graceful trees and planters, and a cobble-stone street that evokes the grandeur of a European country villa.
When I pulled open the door to the hotel I was greeted immediately by one of the hotel’s helpful valets, who are always available to help, but also manage to give you your space and your privacy. The valet asked me about each piece of luggage to ensure that my needs were met, and I was directed inside.
The atmosphere inside was calm, and the decor was absolutely stunning. The first sight that met my eyes was a lovely vase of roses on an exquisite wooden table. The marble floors are covered in beautiful, luxurious rugs and the room is filled with elegant furniture and beautiful sculptures and statues that are truly palatial.
The Windsor staff endeavor to make you feel like you are royalty, making your needs their absolute priority. I was greeted by each staff member as I walked by on my way to the check in desk, and that feeling that I was the most important person in the room continued with the check in desk staff. They even gave my sweet girl a soft Teddy Bear to welcome her! After a smooth check in process, our valet directed us to the elevator and told us we would be going to the 18th floor. Anyone who knows me knows I am not a big fan of heights, but the ride didn’t even trigger that fear. The elevator was spacious and a smooth fast ride to floor 18, and I did not even notice the change in the altitude.
As I walked down the well appointed hallway the valet motioned to our room. The door was open and the wait staff were finishing setting up a welcoming snack tray of fruits, cheeses, bread, jam and nuts. There was a cookie tray for my sweets-loving daughter, making her know for sure that she was a princess. Milk for her and wine for me rounded off our delicious treat.
As the valet finished putting our luggage where I directed, I was able to look around our suite. I was more than pleased with what I saw. A wet bar, mini refrigerator and sink were at the entrance. The sitting room was well appointed with comfortable chairs and a sofa (that would also offer additional sleeping option if needed). Also in the sitting area was a table and chairs, where our delicious treat was waiting for us. Our bedroom with two queen beds was in another room. As the valet led us through the suite, he pointed out many of the convenient amenities, such as complimentary high-speed internet (wired and wireless); complimentary access to PressReader, a paperless digital newspaper and magazine service with access to about 6,500 premium newspapers and magazines from 100 countries in 60 languages; and CubieTime bluetooth alarm clock with 2 power outlets and 2 USB charging ports. There were two areas with sinks and a separate tub/toilet area, which made it easy to get ready.
As we enjoyed our snack, I put my fear of heights to the back of my mind and looked out the beautiful picture window at our view, which was breathtaking. I was happy to be on the 18th floor, looking at the beautiful courtyard with my sweet daughter there to enjoy this experience with me.
Like most mothers, I try to limit the sugar intake of my daughter because I know how very stimulating sugar can be. But I could not say no to my daughter’s sweet face when she asked me for the cookie tray, so I ended up with a very active 3 year old who did not crash until after midnight. Fortunately, there was plenty of room in our suite for her to run around to use up her energy. We settled down a bit in the big garden tub with a warm bubble bath before we retired for the night.
After a quick tour of the property in the morning, we got an idea of where we would enjoy spending our time. The pool is on the fourth floor roof. I would really have loved to enjoy it and the on-site spa, however our time was limited and it was raining during our stay. The pool area is surrounded by tropical foliage. Linens are readily available for guest use. The fitness center is in easy access to the pool. There is a coffee shop on the first floor off the lobby, which offers many delectable treats and some healthy options such as fruit and prepared salads. There is also a grill on the property, and many restaurant within a half mile walking distance, like my favorite brunch location, Brennans. The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and shopping are right outside the courtyard within easy walking distance, which is perfect for families with young children.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans. The property itself is absolutely stunning, the amenities are top of the line, and the service from the beginning of your stay to the end of it is designed to make you feel like you belong in a place named for a royal family.
