Residence Inn Sandestin at Grand Boulevard: Day One

Sandestin, Florida is located in northwest Florida. With beautiful white sandy beaches and an emerald green ocean, this charming resort community is a popular attraction for tourists, and they are ready for them, with 1,300 accommodations. We decided to forego the fancy resorts on our stay, though, and instead stay in the family-friendly Residence Inn Sandestin at Grand Boulevard. This modern property offers easy access to  and the village of Baytowne Wharf.

My first impression was, “What a great location!” Although the property is not on the beach, there are several public beach areas just a short drive away, and the property is within walking distance of Baytowne Wharf, with plenty of shopping and dining. With everything from sit-down restaurants to quick bites to ice cream, the shopping center is a fantastic place to take a young family, and it even a movie theater that runs a special on Tuesdays!

The front desk staff were courteous and helpful. I loaded up the cart, and after a quick ride on the elevator we were in our lovely suite. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, there is plenty of room to enjoy your stay, and the addition of a full kitchen is made it especially inviting for families with children.

Another great feature is the The Residence Inn Mix, a series of social events in the lobby or outdoor space that the hotel offers its guests on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We arrived right at dinner time, so we were offered a delicious burger with all the fixings, chips and fruit. The Meet and Greet hour also includes wine and beer for the adults and sodas or water for everyone. Because we did not have to rush out and find something to eat, we could sit and relax and take it easy on our first evening in Sandestin.

After a great night’s sleep on comfortable beds and a delicious complimentary breakfast in the lobby, my daughter and I were off to test out the beaches.

The first beach was off of US Hwy 98 and was our favorite, with easy access to the sand and water and a small parking lot with restroom facilities. White sand and clear water…what more could we ask for?

After a morning at the first beach we went to meet up with friends who were also spending time in Sandestin, and together we enjoyed another beach area with more clear water and white sand.

After a day in the sun we were ready to clean up and get some nourishment. The bathroom in our suite was clean and the shower was great. The hotel was full of tourists, but even so there was no problem with water temperature. There are so many options for food and entertainment close to the hotel, but on this evening we chose to drive about 10 minutes to the harbor so we could eat at the restaurant on the pier. Before we ate, we met the photographer down a long dock to have a mommy and me photo shoot. Then we were off to dinner at the marina restaurant.

We were full and tired, so being close to our home for the evening was great. We enjoyed another good night’s sleep, and we were ready for day two.
