In Washington DC in the center of the West End, very close to Georgetown, is a hidden gem: The District by Hilton Club. Uniquely located across the top 3 floors of the Embassy Suites by Hilton Washington DC Georgetown hotel, The District is just 4 blocks from Metro Lines and a quick walk to attractions, dining, shops and DuPont Circle nightlife.
Upon arrival my first impression was all the beautiful trees and greenery, right in the heart of busy, metropolitan Washington DC. As I drove up I noted the private drive, which made me feel safer with a small child.
The bellmen appeared immediately to help me with my belongings. We were directed to the eighth floor to check in, where the staff were extremely helpful. I was given the parking pass and directions for how to find where the facility parking garage, as well as passes for breakfast and happy hour for each day of our stay.
Before I parked my car, I went with the bellman to check out our room. He was very helpful, placing my belongs where I asked. The parking beneath the garage was easy to access and there were plenty of spaces.
With the car parked and our belongings safely in our room I could relax and take some time to enjoy the bright airy feel of the hotel. On our way up to our room we stopped for happy hour in the hotel lobby–wine for me and snacks for my little one. Then we went back up.
Our room was comfortable. My daughter has a love for showers, so she was thrilled with the large, tempered glass shower in our bathroom. Relaxed, clean, and comfortable, I ordered a quesadilla from the hotel bar for dinner. My business partner and I did some work while our children played on the large spacious sofa bed. When we finished it was late, so we retired for the evening.
When we arose early the next morning I enjoyed the view of downtown DC from our room. We went down to the lobby and WOW! what a breakfast was waiting for us! I had a made-to-order omelette, and The buffet featured eggs, bacon, sausage, assorted fruits, and cereal–something for every taste, which is great when you’re traveling with a little one. I enjoyed a made-to-order omelette.
With our stomachs full we were able to get some work done while the children played in the spacious suite. After some time working, it was time to take the kiddos out exploring. The District is a perfect location for being a tourist in DC. It is within walking distance of all of the landmarks you don’t want to miss: the National Mall, the White House, Jefferson Memorial, the Smithsonian…all of them are right there, easy to get to with no need to flag down a cab or wait for an Uber. There are plenty of restaurants in walking distance, so we chose a healthy option and enjoyed the air conditioning as we ate.
We went back to the hotel for a little more work while the children rested. On our way back to our room, I picked up a few necessities in the hotel convenience store–another plus when traveling with children.
For our last night we took an Uber to the Georgetown waterfront for dinner. It was a beautiful night and we appreciated being able to go to Georgetown and enjoy the evening, and still get back to the hotel at a reasonable hour.
Checking out the next morning was as easy as check-in. The bellman assisted me in getting my belongings to the garage and in my car. Then we were off to our next adventure!
